Meet Jake (If I had to describe this guy in just one word it would be “peaceful” )

Today’s photo of the day is titled “Meet Jake” as this if the first actual portrait style photo of Jake I have captured and edited to completion. We acquired Jake a few months back from a friend. Jake was in desperate need of some exercise. So my wife and I brought him to the farm where we live and Jake has been doing just fine. He is the sweetest little guy to have a around, so mellow and always willing to go for a walk. If I had to describe this guy in just one word it would be “peaceful” Jake is just full of love and kindness. He is a wonderful companion to our spastic Bichon named Pixel (Pixie). So there you go, everybody meet our boy Jake.

Technical Info: Shot with the Canon 6D with a 70-200mm f/2.8 in available light at 7:49am. 1/250 sec at f/5.0 ISO 200 at 200mm. It was morning time just walking around the farm and I had my camera in hand. Hoping for a nice bird shot or a rabbit… maybe. But nothing. Then looking over at Jake, just sitting there I captured a short series of photos from the angled look you see here to some straight on. It was the angled look I liked best. Editing in Lightroom CC to set the basics, such as camera profile and white balance, then over to Photoshop CC 2015 (now that all my plugins are finally working). Using Perfectly Clear and then Nik Silver Efex Pro for the black & white conversion seemed to be a great combo for this edit. The big “pop” came when I hit the yellow filter in Silver Efex Pro and it did just one thing and one thing only. It made the highlights in Jake’s eyes just pop so his eyes were not just black pools. Then Smart Sharpen mask in PS and back to Lightroom CC for the finishing little touches.
