Today’s photo of the day goes to Old #60 of the Black River & Western Railroad located right here in my hometown of Ringoes NJ. The BR&W runs a freshly rebuilt American Locomotive Company short line engine between the town of Ringoes & Flemington New Jersey. Old 60 as she is know was built in 1934.
Although the BR&W operates a Diesel Freight leasing service throughout NJ and eastern PA they also operate a short line freight service to local customers. And Old 60 can be seen (when the weather is good) running passengers between Ringoes & Flemington. They also have special Autumn & Christmas train rides as well.
So while heading home from an ill-fated wildlife shoot I heard Old 60’s steam whistle and I set up at the Ringoes Pumpkin Patch Station and caught a few shots as she lumbered on by. There is just something about the chugging, whooshing, bell clanging and cry of her whistle as this majestic baby from yesteryear passes on by that makes you just want to stop and watch. It really is a lot of fun to take in all the sounds.
